Luca Brading is an in-demand saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Melbourne, Australia. His musical inspiration stems from a love of improvised music, jazz and RnB. He has had success as a bandleader with multiple jazz and pop groups and as a sideman working with Melbourne based and International artists.Luca began playing the saxophone at age 9, which sparked a passion for the instrument and improvisation. At the age of 12 he began piano lessons and by 15 he was performing in and around Melbourne on saxophone, guitar, vocals and piano.Luca graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2024 specialising in Jazz and Improvisation. There he honed his musical prowess under the teachings of saxophonists Carlo Barbaro and Julien Wilson, and trumpeter Mat Jodrell. In 2022, he was a recipient of the Ormond Exhibitions Scholarship for excellence within his Bachelor of Music studies.Since completing his studies, Luca has been working as a session musician, bandleader and educator, teaching students across a wide range of skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.Luca's newest musical endeavour is Gerarde, an alternative pop group that draws influence from artists such as Bon Iver, Dijon and Bruce Hornsby. In 2026 Gerarde released a 6-track self-titled EP, with more songs in the works for a debut album.Outside of his own projects, Luca has worked with a plethora of musicians both in the studio and on stage including Seb Szabo, MÖZE, Alisya Rae and more. While working with these acts, Luca has shared stages and studios with leading Australian musicians such as Playlunch, Baker Boy and Wanderers. Throughout his travels, Luca has also performed internationally in Tokyo and Paris.
